Ecclesiastes is such a fascinating book to have in the scriptures. There’s a certain darkness to the wisdom that always surprises me.
Enjoy the moment while you can, the Teacher says, because death comes for us all, and you can’t really do anything when you’re dead. It strikes me as the kind of wisdom one needs to battle the demon of acedia (as far as I understand it). Truly enjoy and savor the moments of your life, revel in the goodness of whatever life gives you to do right now.
Engage with the world around you. Eat and drink and talk and rejoice in the beauty of the world, in daily prayer, in morning routine, in the repetition required to make life work each day. Delight in the way the birds keep singing, despite the horrors of the world. Return to the present moment and realize there is always goodness and blessing here.
