Part of being a missional Christian is the simple act of blessing those people and things you come in contact with, instead of cursing them or ignoring them. Incarnational living means we bring the light of Christ into every situation, and we see every person, object and situation as redeemable. Blessing something means embodying the gospel instead of just talking about it.
These were thoughts that ran through my head as I perused the a site called rejesus today. In their Celtic Spirituality section, there is a link that takes you to "Blessings for every occasion". There is a blessing for bathrooms, one to say as you leave for work, one to speak as you wash yourself, blessings for gardens and food, etc. My favorite by far, though, is the blessing for a car. So many times we just complain about our cars, don’t we? We curse them, we express open disdain for them. No wonder they don’t work! What if we made a practice of blessing our cars? I’m going to bless my car today using these words:
Bless the car to me, O Lord,
Bless me to my car.
Be in my driving,
Be in my concentration,
Be in my decisions.
Bless this journey to me, O Lord.
It is a small reflection of my journey through life,
My life given to you.
My way chosen by you.
A journey with you,
A journey to you.
A journey to knowing myself,
A journey to knowing you,
A journey of being saved and healed.
lol – great post!
We all need a reminder about having a relationship with God so close that we would talk with him about our car!
Thanks for your writing here. I will try to stop by more often.
