Of course voting took place three days ago, but because I was in the midst of a PC-to-Mac switch (yes!), I missed this. Jim Wallis listed the best criteria for voting I’ve seen. As we vote, we ought to think about:
- Compassion and Economic Justice
- Peace and Restraint of Violence
- Consistent Ethic of Life
- Racial Justice
- Human Rights, Dignity, and Gender Justice
- Strengthen Families and Renew Culture
- Good Stewardship of God’s Creation
Here’s a link to his commentary on each issue.

Ben-I wouldn’t say this post is late, in fact, I might say it is right on time. With the most recent voting cycle ending, the race for the White House will PUBLICLY gear up and gain momentum with each passing month. With the notion that for the next 18 months I will be able to read/listen/watch the media without the need to turn off negative political advertising, it would be practical to do some low-key research before the feeding frenzy begins. A photo op with a popular ‘personality’ or a few ‘buzz-word’ statements does not qualify someone to serve in the highest office of our democracy. This is one task we can’t ‘out-source.’
