So here’s something I’ve pondered every time I write a new blog post: What is the correct way to title posts?
Some Posts Are Titled Like This
and
Some posts are titled like this
Has anyone else ever wondered about this? You’ll notice I’ve done both in the past, but I think I’ve decided that option #2 is the correct way, for a couple reasons:
- Blog posts are kind of like newspaper stories, and that’s how news stories are titled
- Blog posts are generally not all that formal, and not capitalizing every letter better conveys informality. It’s not like we’re writing a book every time we post, right?
For grammar geeks like me, this is a pretty important question (and I’ve obviously spent way too much time thinking about it). How do you think blog posts should be titled?
I just recently read someone else’s blog post on this. It was fun to read all the comments over there. Lot’s of opinions. Here you go: http://humblemusings.com/archives/2006/05/12/blogging-grammar/
I definitely think option #2 seems like the right way.
I’d say Option #2 as well….besides we’re living in a postmodern world, and formal grammar rules are so….modern.
Now if you asked, say, a bunch of classical homeschooling moms who used Rod and Staff curriculum, then not capitalizing all those words would be blasphemy. :o)
#2, that’s how i do it too. i guess i look at it more as a public diary, or an invitation for discussion….not like you said, writing a book every time.
also, like now, i usually do all my typing one-handed while i’m feeding my baby. i can’t capitalize with one hand! 🙂 (well i maybe could, but it would take forever!)
