I am excited to share with you a new global church planting initiative that I am helping to catalyze.
The initiative is being organized by members of a neo-monastic order I am part of called The Order of Mission (TOM). TOM is a covenant family of Kingdom leaders living into the mission of God on six continents. It is a group of people who see their primary vocation as missionaries, have taken lifelong vows of simplicity, purity and accountability and all live by the same Rule of Life.
It’s with this missional order that we are starting a church planting movement simply called The TOM Project, beginning in the United States and Europe. We are specifically targeting college campuses, our goal being that in 20 years, there will be fruitful Kingdom expressions on every college campus in the United States and Europe.
We are starting in the United States first and then in the very near future, expanding to Europe with some very similar strategies.
In the United States, we have two strategies for going about this:
- We are going to plant on the 100 most influential campuses in the United States.
- We are starting Learning Communities to train leaders of churches and other communities who are already on college campuses (InterVarsity, Cru, FCA, college churches, etc.) and new church planters. Our first Learning Community will be February 17-22 in Pawleys Island, SC.
To get more info, or sign up for the first Learning Community, head to the TOM Project website. You can also read a whitepaper explaining the rationale for this initiative, written by Doug Paul and Jo Saxton.
You can also read more about the initiative over the coming weeks on Mike Breen’s blog and Doug Paul’s blog. Oh, and of course you can contact me if you’re interested in talking further about this initiative!
