Long time no blog. After a few days off around Christmastime, I have been swamped with things to do at church. I won’t really have anything profound to say in this 100th post, except a bit of a plot of the future. I hope to find time to post more often, and when I do so, the posts will most likely be related to the church work I am doing, as well as the books I’ve been reading.
I’ve been devouring N.T. Wright’s stuff as quickly as I can. I’m trying not to be a fan-boy, but I lean toward thinking he is writing some of the most important theological works available. I love that he is grounded in the "popular" world as well as the academic. He writes for both audiences with aplomb, probably because he remains connected to "normal" people through his work as an Anglican bishop. My "currently reading" list on the left shows what I’m working on. It’s mostly his popular stuff, but I am trying to work my way through his big "Christian Origins and the Question of God" series (almost finished with the first book, The New Testament and the People of God). So they’ll be some discussions on Wright’s ideas (which I find endorse some emerging church practices, and call into question others… more later!)
As far as church work goes, we are teaching through a series on our church’s values on Sunday mornings (Experiencing God / Healing Hurts / Embracing Destiny / Celebrating Life: I’ve always thought that list wasn’t half-bad. But of course I had a hand in shaping it ;), and I’ll be starting a Sunday (earlier) morning class on the Sermon on the Mount (called King of the Hill) as well as facilitate a Sunday evening church service. This in addition to facilitating some Bible discussions among young people on Wednesday nights, as well as facilitating a monthly student-led SoulSpace worship environment for young people (think alternative worship).
With all that going on, finding stuff to blog about won’t be difficult. Finding time might be.
Congratulations on your 100th post! Does this mean your blog can now be syndicated on the FOX network?
I think that’s the general rule, isn’t it? 100 posts = FOX news?
I’ve been ‘listening’ to some of Bishop Wright’s lectures at http://www.ntwrightpage.com/ . He truly is gifted at presenting theology ‘for everyone’.
Thanks for sharing your infectious curiosity.
